I’m Marie,
the human behind Lambshead Studio.
At the heart of it all, my work is about finding balance—between digital and analog, serious and playful, art and utility.
After 15 years as an art director + graphic designer working in advertising, I was ready to step away from my screen and into something slower, more tactile, and refreshingly analog. That shift led me to ceramics, where I could blend my love for design and illustration with a hands-on creative process.
Most days I can be found in my home studio in Toronto’s vibrant St. Clair neighbourhood where I blend playful yet practical ceramic objects that focus on nostalgic existentialism. This work aims to intentionally take a more lighthearted approach to a traditional (and often overly serious) medium.
In a world where so much of our surroundings are mass-produced to be identical, there’s something special about owning a piece that was made by human hands—something with subtle variations and a story behind it, something that is 1/1.
Doing it as sustainably as possible:
Working with clay, a precious, nonrenewable resource, I am mindful of waste and sustainability. I reclaim all my clay scraps, recycle all the relentless junk mail that lands at my door, shred old shipping boxes for package filling, and only run my kiln during off-peak hours to minimize energy use. I even manage to reuse all the water collected in my dehumidifier on hot summer days. My goal is to create a local-minded, near-zero-waste workspace.
